Are these guys so cute or what! It was such a pleasure getting to hang out with Derrek and Charise on their wedding day. So much love going around. I love the story how Derrek asked Charise’s dad to take her hand in marriage. We loved it so much, we opened the video with it!

I just love these montages as you (we) NEVER know exactly how they are going to turn out until they are done! We showed this video at Derrek and Charise’s wedding this past weekend at the Marriott Long Beach, California and everyone absolutely loved it!! One thing I really liked about their montage was that the first minute or so is a tribute to their parents! I love that. I hope my kids would do that for me!!

Q + A WITH DERREK AND CHARISE

Q. HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?
We met in Mammoth on UCI engineering social event. I was part of ESC (Engineering Student Council) and Derrek, being the smart guy that he is was part of Tau Beta Pi, an Honor’s Engineering Club. Our groups participated in this trip to ski, snowboard, and just have fun in the snow. We actually first saw each other in the skating rink. We officially met during dinner time. I was with a friend eating Pocky’s and talking. Then Derrek sat with us and started talking and took the rest of our Pocky’s. That’s what I last remembered of him. Then spring break came along and I got an e-mail with no subject from a Derrek Shoji asking how I was and if I would like to hang out sometime. Of course I accepted… and that’s how it all began….

Q. WHAT WAS THE STORY OF THE PROPOSAL?
Simple and Intimate. Derrek has not given me my Valentine’s gift yet, not that I was expecting something huge, but he said that he was still working on it and would give it to me when he’s done. March 2009. Typical night. We were staying at Derrek’s parent’s house. No one was home at this time of course. I was watching some tv downstairs and Derrek was busy doing something upstairs. I would see him go up and down to the kitchen then back up to his room. Then he said ok time to eat dinner, let’s eat upstairs tonight. So that seems odd, I know now that he probably did something for the long awaited Valentine’s gift. So I walked into his room, and once I opened the door, John Legend This Time was playing, there’s table set for 2, candle lit all over the room and there were bubbles blowing in the air… such a romantic scene. I didn’t even go in the room, just stayed outside crying happy tears. I finally went in and we ate a very romantic dinner, with the main course fettuccini alfredo, my favorite. He had made a DVD slideshow of our times together and even wrote me a song and played his violin (guitar style). So I was thinking this was the best Valentine’s gift ever. So at the end of dinner, we each had a fortune cookie…and mine had a special note. It says to take down one of the paintings derrek made off the wall. I walked on over and removed it, and to my surprise there was another painting beneath it, with a picture of Derrek on one knee proposing to me. I quickly looked over to Derrek, already on one knee. I looked at the picture again and again making sure what I am seeing is real. I ran over to derrek and hugged him. He then said all the nice and sweet stuff to me and asked me to be his wife. I said yes.. of course… and jumped for joy and cried tears of happiness. It was one of the most special moments of our lives and we are sooo happy!

Q. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING MARRIED?
Charise – Knowing and feeling that Derrek will always be there for me through all the good and bad times. Derrek – I love working together as a couple and decorating our house to make it a home. Both – Seeing each other every day and eating dinner together nightly.

Q. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Charise – Reaching the end of the aisle as Derrek took my hand. Kissing Derrek as my husband. Listening to all the speeches from our family and friends. Derrek – I loved the ceremony at the church where Charise and I became husband and wife. It was very special and I will always remember the moment. Both – Towards the end of the night one of our friends requested to play “A Whole New World” from my favorite Disney Movie Aladdin. Apparently everyone knew the words, so all our friends that were on the dance floor formed a circle around us. We danced through the entire song as they serenaded.

Q.  WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO HIRE A VIDEOGRAPHER?
At first we weren’t planning on getting one, but after seeing the videos from Brian and Impressive Creations, there was no doubt that we wanted our special day to be captured on video so we may relive it over and over again at any time. If there were any moments we missed, we can definitely see it on the video. The wedding day goes by so fast, but with a video we are able to “Pause” and “Rewind” all the special moments. We will also be able to share it with family and friends that were not able to attend.
